An outbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;7(2):24-8.

Multiresistant hospital infections have become a serious global problem. Failure to implement infection control policies and lack of awareness are the factors contributing to hospital infections and outbreak. An outbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) occurred among the surgical patients in Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi. Seventy six cases were identified in, twelve weeks, 45 being sensitive only to vancomycin. An exhaustive investigation traced the source to one of the operating rooms. Screening of the medical staff identified nine carries. MRSA, because of its high prevalence and appearance of strains which are resistant to most of the available antibiotics, is one of the most important problems facing the medical community today. Strict infection control measures are required to deal with this problem.
