Foeto-placental weight relationship in normal pregnancy and pre-eclampsia.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;15(1):53-5.

Background:To study the effects of pre-eclampsia on foeto-placental weight ratio and compare it with normotensive group. Methods: In this comparative study hundred placentae were taken and divided into two groups. Normotensive Group included placentae from mothers having normal blood pressure and Hypertensive Group included placentae from mothers having pre-eclampsia. Foetal weights in both groups were taken along with the weights of placentae and foeto-placental weight was calculated in both groups along with placental index. Results: The mean birth weight and placental weight was more in normotensive group, while foeto-placental weight ratio was more in hypertensive group. Conclusion: Both the foetal and placental weight is decreased in pre-eclampsia but the foeto-placental ratio is increased and the placental co-efficient is decreased as a result to placental affection.
