Pak J Pathol Jan ;8(2):3-6.

An autopsy study of serving soldiers dying of myocarditis is presented. All patients were young males (age, 26-42 years). These patients were either asymptomatic or suffered form fever and upper respiratory tract infection. In some of these patients thrombocytopenia was seen before death. Postmortem examination revealed myocrditis in these patients.ln addition pulmonary edema and hemmorhages in various organs like lungs, GIT, kidneys and cerebrum were noted. The etiology of myocarditis and pathogenesis of hemorrhages is suspected to be due to viral infection and possibility of dengue fever is discussed. Possibility of pulmonary edema due to viral myocarditis should be kept in mind in patients suffering from unexplained thrombocytopenia alongwith difficulty in breathing.
