Abnormal/ excessive uterine hemorrhage: A histopathological study.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;9(4):20-4.

The histological changes of 50 endometrial curettings and 50 uteri in patients of excessive uterine bleeding in our population were studied. Chronic endometritis (24%) and the glandular cystic hyperlasia (14%) were the most important causes of excessive uterine bleeding in endometrial curettings. The patients with abnormal uterine bleeding had small clusterings in twenties and perimenopausal age groups. No case of endometrial carcinoma was diagnosed in this series. The histologcal study of hysterectomy specimens revealed multiple leiomyomas (30%) and adenomyosis (22%) as the commonest causes of excessive uterine bleeding in later age groups. One case each of leiomyosarcoma and endometrial stromal sarcoma were diagnosed suggesting a much lower frequency of uterine malignancy (excluding cervix) in our country.
