Diagnostic Role of Micro - ESR in Neonatal Septicemia.
Mother & Child Jan ;34(3):113-6.

Eighty eight new borns were studied to see the diagnostic role of micro- ESR in neonatal septicemia. Sixty six new borns were ill, while 22 were normal healthy controls. Their age ranged within 1-30 days. Out of 66 ill new borns, 42 were clinically suggestive of septicemia while 24 were less likely to be infected.Blood culture. Micro ESR, CRP and absolute neutrophil count was performed on all babies. Of the 42 clinically suggestive cases only 18 were culture positive. Micro ESR, CRP and Absolute Neutrophil , count showed sensitivity of 20%, 74% and 74% specificity of 92%, 78% and 71% respectively. Thus it is concluded that micro ESR is not a sensitive indicator of neonatal sepsis.
