Prophylactic Antibiotics in Elective Major Gynaecological Surgery: Single Perioperative Dose vs Multiple Postoperative Doses.
Mother & Child Jan ;37(2):51-3.

During five months period, 88 patients were observed after major gynaecological surgery for the evidence of infection. Half of them had single peri-operative dose of either Co-amoxiclave or ceftazidime. The rest of them had cefradine and metronidazole post-operatively for ten days. Pipemidic acid was added to the second group of patients if there were pus cells in postoperative urine examination. Incidence of post-operative infection was more in the patients who had multiple post-operative antibiotics for ten days.
