Infectious Renal Calculi.

Renal stones removed by surgery from two hundred and eight patients were analysed for chemical composition. Infectious stone were 27%. Female to male ratio was 1.8:1 and the maximum incidence was seen in the age group of 30-50 years. Stone culture for the growth of microorganism was done in these patients. Thirty-three percent had a growth on stone culture, mostly urease producing organisms. Infection stone had growth in 73% cases, while pure calcium oxalate and uric acid stones had no growth. Per-operative urine culture (aspiration of urine from renal pelvis) was also done and noted correlation with the results of stone culture.
