J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;5(2):96-100.

Non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the term used to describe the distinct clinical entity in which patients lack history of significant alcohol consumption but have similar liver biopsy findings indistinguishable from alcoholic hepatitis. Other terms that have infrequently used to describe this condition include Pseudo alcoholic hepatitis, alcohol like hepatitis, fatty liver hepatitis, steato necrosis and diabetic hepatitis. The prevalence of NASH in the general population is not well defined. Among patients who have had liver biopsies, NASH is seen approximately 7-9% in western countries. As unselected Autopsy Study of apparently non alcoholic subjects found steatohepatitis in 3% of lean individuals and 19% of obese patients. NASH occurs in all age groups and there have been reports in children over 10 years of ages NASH occurs more frequently in females (65.83%). This article highlights various clinical pictures and treatment modalities.
