Pattern of Accidents Encountered in Textile Industry.

A survey was conducted to evaluate types of accidents encountered by the textile factory workers within their working premises. 7 out of 14 textile mills of Hyderabad, presently in operation were visited. A total number of 700 worker from industrial units were interviewed, the findings were incorporated in a questionnaire. The author observed that the workers received different injuries of varying intensity. The serious injury noticed is the, crush injury of the hands, requiring surgical amputation leading to permanent partial disability. The compensation as per prevailing legal enactments was awarded through the Sindh Social Security Employees Institution (SSEI) and the Labour Department, Government of Sindh. The incidence of accidental injuries is relatively low as compared with the number of cases documented in the medical literature by the western authors. This study also shows areas responsible for causation of accidental trauma and suggest the preventive measures.
