Clinicopathological study of 50 cases of leprosy in Northern Pakistan.

Objective: To document different clinical and pathological patterns of leprosy in Northern Pakistan. Patients and methods: Fifty clinically and histologically confirmed cases of leprosy were enrolled for this study. Results: Forty patients were male and ten female. Seven patients had tuberculoid leprosy, 25 borderline tuberculoid, 3 borderline lepromatous, 13 lepromatous leprosy and 2 were indeterminate type. Highest number of patients belonged to Khyberpakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces. Conclusion: Leprosy is still prevalent in Pakistan. Doctors and other health personnel should be trained to make them aware of the different presentations of this disabling disease.
