Terbinafine in patients with tinea cruris Tinea cruris, in reference to its treatment, is widely reported, whereas there have been few reports on this issue from southern region of province of Punjab, Pakistan. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy, tolerability and safety of two weeks treatment with oral terbinafine in our patients of tinea cruris. 46 adult patients (44 males and 02 females) qualified for this open, prospective study. All of them were having a clinical diagnosis of tinea cruris confirmed by KOH-mount microscopy and fungal culture. Each patient received 250 mg of terbinafine orally for two weeks and followed up for 06 weeks. Response to treatment was, clinically, assessed at week 2, 4 and 6, while microscopy & culture were performed at baseline and completion of study. Analysis of these patients, at the end of study, showed 89.14% clinical and 93.47% mycological cure. Trichophyton rubrum was found to be the most common causative dermatophyte. No significant clinical and investigative side effects were observed. Our results indicate that two weeks oral terbinafine is effective, safe and well tolerated in our patients, suffering from tinea cruris.
