Herpes Gestationis in a Primigravida resulting in fetal death.
J Pak Assoc Derma Jan ;12(1):54-7.

Herpes gestationis (HG) is an uncommon pruritic auto immune blistering disease of pregnancy. Some of the studies on foetal prognosis have revealed significant foetal death and premature deliveries. We report a case of a primigravida who developed severe pruritus in seventh month of pregnancy followed by generalized bullous eruption and gave birth to a stillborn child three weeks later.

Case Reports: A 20 year old female presented to the dermatology clinic a day after delivering a still born child at eight month of pregnancy, with a history of developing an extremely pruritic papular vesicular eruption on the abdomen, face, and limbs (Fig 1), three weeks prior to delivery. The past and family history were insignificant. On examination lesions varied from erythematous and urticarial papules to fully developed bullae. Itching was troublesome. Histology confirmed the clinical diagnoses of HG. The treatment of HG is designed to suppress blister formation and to relieve the intense pruritus. Our patient responded to antihistamines and topical steroids.
