Pak Paed J Jan ;38(4):244-8.

Objective: To describe the correlation between relapse risk and initial clinical presentation in children suffering from nephrotic syndrome. Study Design: descriptive study. Setting and Place: 50 patients between 1-10 years of age who presented with the diagnosis of Nephrotic syndrome were included in this study. Study was done from 15th January 2012 to 14th January 2013 at Department of Pediatrics, Bolan Medical Complex Hospital, Quetta. Results: The patients (92.0%) had reduction mostly within initial 20 days. The male to female ratio was 2.5:1. The mean age of study subjects was 3.81 years, with 56% (28/50) of patients below 4 years. 39 patients (78.0%) had relapse while 7 patients (14.0%) had no relapse. p<0.01) Patients having generalized edema had more relapses as compared to patients with milder edema (p<0.02), Patients of younger age group had more relapses than older age groups. Conclusion: 50 children suffering from nephrotic syndrome, young age at onset of illness (p value=0.01), generalized edema at presentation (p value=<0.02), were found to have strong correlation with the recurrence risk. While relation of patients sex and hematuria with risk of relapse was insignificant.
