Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of chronic liver disease leading to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The virus spreads through blood and body secretions including sexual route. It is estimated that 130-150 million people globally have chronic hepatitis C infection and 350,000-500,000 people die annually due to its complications3. The rate of vertical transmission of HCV i.e. from HCV positive mother to child varies between 3-5% worldwide. In Pakistan, the prevalence of HCV in general population is 4.9%5 while in pregnancy it ranges between 4-8%.
