Burning mouth syndrome: a diagnostic dilemma.

Complaint of a burning mouth and absence of visible pathologic lesions or processes makes the diagnosis of burning mouth syndrome difficult for the oral health care providers. Usually found in the aging population, burning mouth syndrome often also present other oral complaints like dryness & taste alterations. Various local, systemic & environmental causes which could act as predisposing factors must be assessed. Many possible theories regarding the etiology and therapeutic modalities have been proposed and tested, but BMS still remains an enigma.
