Trend of Medicolegal cases and their Postmortem Examination at Accident and Emergency Department of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi.

To know the trend of medicolegal cases with the increase in emergency cases reported to one of the largest hospital of city of Karachi for the last eight years (1991 - 98), total number medicolegal cases along with postmortem examination were compared with all the cases reported to Accident aid Emergency Department of JPMC, Karachi during 1991-98. The interrelationship of reported emergency cases with the time were found statistically positive correlated. (r = 0.81, p < 0.01) The number of medicolegal cases showed statistically nonsignificant positive correlation with reported emergency cases i.e. from 1991-98 (r = 0.39, nonsignificant) and number of postmortem were also positively correlated with reported medicolegal cases. (r = 0.72, p < 0.05). The eight years average statistics revealed that assault cases were 66.6% accident 25.3%, poisoning 5.94%, natural death 0.50 % and miscellaneous 1.57%.
