J Pak Assoc Derma Jan ;11(4):7-12.

Two hundred patients with clinical suspicion of allergic contact dermatitis, of any age and either sex, were collected from the Department of Dermatology, Mayo Hospital, Lahore, from June, 1995 to June, 1996. Female to male ratio was 1.7:1. Patch test was performed on all patients using the European standard series. Scraping for fungus and biopsy was done, if needed. Patch test results were positive in 56.5% of the cases. Nickel sulphate (21%) was the commonest allergen followed by neomycin sulphate (15.5%), potassium dichromate (14%), fragrance mix (9%), cobalt chloride (7.5%), 4-phenylenediamine (7%), colophony (4%) and others. None of the patients showed sensitivity to sesquiterpene lactone mix and primin. Polysensitivity was noted in 26.5% of the cases. Positive patch test results were relevant in 44% of the patients. Comparison with other international studies revealed a much higher sensitivity to neomycin, potassium dichromate and PPD.
