Acute Spinal Cord Compression; Granulocytic Sarcoma as a First Manifestation During the Remission Phase of Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia; Case Report and Review of Literature.
Pak J Neurol Jan ;6(1-2):20-4.

Granulocytic sarcoma involving spine is a rare malignant neoplasm in patients with myeloid leukemia and occasionally in aleukemic patients. We report a case (with a review of literature) of granulocytic sarcoma dorsal spine presenting with acute spinal cord compression as the first manifestation during the remission phase of acute myeloblastic leukemia. The patient showed dramatic neurological recovery after surgical decompression of spinal cord and was subsequently treated by appropriate chemotherapeutic regimen and local radiotherapy. We emphasize to keep a high index of suspicion and use of appropriate ancillary methods for the diagnosis of these cases in the clinical background so that a prompt appropriate therapeutic therapeutic modality can be instituted as these tumors have a very good prognosis.
