The evaluation of the treatment of tibial shaft fractures, by dynamic compression plating and interlocking nails. A comparative results of 80 cases.
J Pak Inst Med Sci Jan ;8-12:576-9.

We have selected eighty patients with unstable tibial shaft fractures. These patients were divided into two groups. In group I, 40 cases were operated with dynamic compression plates. In group II, fractures were fixed with intramedullary interlocking nails. Intramedullary nailing for tibial shaft fractures have been an effective modality, which allows early ambulation, early weight bearing, decreased hospitalisation, decreased dependency and decreasedperiod of time away from job. Where as the dynamic compression plating provides axial compression with out the use of tension device. We have found that intra medullary nailing is a better option for internal fixation of tibial shaft fractures if the instruments and proper expertise are available.
