Colonic and Ileocecal Atresia in Identical Twins.
Pak J Surg Jan ;18(1):21-3.

Colonic atresias are rare in neonates accounting for 2 to 15 % cases of intestinal obstruction. Colonic atresia, occurring in identical twins has been reported before but is extremely rare. lleocecal atresia is also a very rare anomaly. We are presenting a pair of identical twins who presented in the newborn period with features of intestinal obstruction. Radiological investigations suggested distal intestinal obstruction and microcolon. Both the babies were explored by transverse laparotomy affer resuscitation. Twin A had cocoon like intestine adherent together in the form of a ball. There was type-1 atresia about 4 centimeters from the ileocecal region. Baby also had complete lleocecal diaphragm. Twin B also presented in the similar manner and had type-1 atresia at the same level of the colon. Colostomy at the site of atresia was performed in both the children, as the general condition of the babies was not very well. Both had uneventful recovery and are now thriving well.
