J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;3(1-2):20-2.

Forty patients suffering from Chronic Hepatitis due to Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) underwent treatment. They were divided into Group A and Group B, each comprising 20 individuals. Patients were age matched and the viral load before initiating treatment was comparable in both groups. All were put on a combination of Interferon and Ribavirin for 26 weeks. Group A patients were given 3 million units Interferon daily for 6 weeks and then thrice weekly for the remaining 20. Group B patients received it thrice weekly in the same dose throughout the duration of treatment Patients of both groups also received Ribavirin 1200mg daily for 26 weeks Response to treatment was much higher (85%) in Group A Patients all of whom received daily Interferon for initial 6 weeks compared to Group B (65%). We tend to regard this the superior therapeutic regimen for treating chronic HCV infection.
