Bolton Tooth size ratio among different malocclusion groups: A pilot study.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a difference in the intermaxillary tooth size discrepancies among different malocclusion groups in Saudi Patients. MATERIALS & METHODS: This study consisted of 55 patients with varying malocclusions. Tooth size measurements were done on the pretreatment models of these patients by electronic digital calipers. Descriptive statistics, one way analysis of variance and t - test were used for statistical analysis of the data. RESULT: The results show no significant difference in the incidence of tooth size discrepancies for the overall and the anterior ratios among the different malocclusions. The result showed no statistical significant difference between the means of the Class I malocclusion group of the present study and Bolton`s means. CONCLUSION: Bolton tooth size analysis is an important diagnostic tool and should be taken into consideration before initiation of orthodontic treatment.
