Frequency of urinary tract infection in non catheterized patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Objective: To determine the frequency of urinary tract infection in non-catheterized patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methodology: This study was carried out in the Department of Urology, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, Pakistan from January 2015 to July 2015. A total of 110 Non-catheterized patients with clinical diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were included in this study. Brief history of duration of signs and symptoms of BPH patients were taken. Presence of urinary bacterial colony count 105colony-forming units per mL of a typical urinary tract organism was considered as UTI. Results: The average age of the patients were 60.49±5.9 years. Urinary tract infection was observed in 37.27% cases. Conclusion: We conclud that strategy should be made to screen such patients and prompt treatment to avoid or minimize the morbidity.
