Frequency of Morbidity in Typhoid Ileal Perforation Treated In Surgical Ward-03 Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Karachi.

Objective: To determine the frequency of morbidity in Typhoid Ileal Perforation treated in surgical ward-03 Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Karachi. Study design: Descriptive case series. Place and Duration of Study: Study was conducted in Surgical Ward-03 Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Karachi from 8th June 2011 to 9th November 2011. Methodology: Patients admitt ed with sample size of 114 patients with peritonitis due to typhoid ileal perforation was included as calculated by exact 95% confi dence interval. Results: Total 114 patients of typhoid ileal perforation were enrolled. Out of 114, 63(55%) were males, 51 (45%) were females, with mean age of 37.9 yrs. Out of 114 that undergone exploratory laparotomy for ileal perforation, 48 patients ( 42% ) postoperatively developed wound infections and wound dehiscence. Conclusion: Th e problem of typhoid fever and its dreadful complications must ultimately be solved by preventive measures and early intervention should be emphasized to yield bett er outcomes.
