Phacoemulsification: A Review of 210 Cases.

The results of 210 cases of phacoemulsification are presented. 50% of the patients completed the followup. Intraocular lens (IOL) Implantation was done in 159 (76%) patients. IOLs used were PMMA, single-piece, biconvex, round lenses with optic diameters of 6.5, 5.5 and 5mm. Best-corrected visual acuity between 616 and 6112 was achieved in 70% of the patients with intraocular lens implantation and 42% of the patients without intraocular lens implantation. Visual acuity of 6/18 was achieved in 21% and 22% of the patients respectively. Posterior capsular rent and iris damage were the most common complications; the incidence for these was higher in the initial cases.
