Management of Intraocular Foreign Bodies.

Seven patients presented with a history of intraocular foreign body (IOM. Four sustained injury while metal was being hammered, two due to blast and one due to flying particle from a pair of scissors on a grinding wheel. The time interval between the injury and presentation varied from two days to four weeks. The wound of entry was self sealing in four patients while three required anterior segment repair and reconstruction. There were two patients with a double perforation and five had the IOFB lodged in the posterior segment. Amongst the latter, pars plana vitrectomy was carried out to remove I0FB in four patients and external magnet was used in one. The postoperative visual acuity was 619 in two, 6112 in one, 6/36 in one, light perception in one and two patients were lost to follow-up. I0FB is a complicated problem due to uncontrolled nature of the initial trauma and requires planned intervention but the nature of outcome is variable.
