Peripapillary subretinal Neovascular Membranes.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;16(2):70-5.

Photocoagulation indications and visual outcome in a group of 28 eyes of 26 patients with peripapillary subretinal neovascular membranes (SRNM) were evaluated. Thirteen eyes (46.4%) had age-related macular degeneration, seven (25.0%) had angioid streaks, three (10.71%) were idiopathic, two (7.14%) had degenerative myopia, one (3.57%) had optic disc drusen, one (3.57%) peripapillary choroidal nevus, and one (3.57%) had optic disc coloboma. Two of 5 patients with angioid streaks had bilateral peripapillary subretinal neovascular membranes. If peripapillary SRNM extended under the center of foveola, no laser treatment was performed. Overall, nineteen of 28 eyes (67.8%) received argon laser photocoagulation. Seven of these 19 eyes (36.8%) experienced increase in visual acuity. Visual acuity remained unchanged in six eyes (31.6%) and decreased in the remaining six eyes (31.6%). Peripapillary SRNM carried a favorable prognosis with appropriate photocoagulation unless subfoveal extension was present.
