Ann Abbasi Shaheed Hosp Karachi Med Dent Coll Jan ;5:204-8.

This study provides evidence that occurrence of typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi (S. typhi) has been on the increase during the time period under study. The study also discovers that 580 (37.2%) of the total S. typhi are resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole but sensitive to cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, aztreonam and ofloxacin. The suggested regimen for children and pregnant women includes ceftriaxone and aztreonam while ofloxacin seems to cover rest of the population.
