Effect of Neuroticism, Extraversion, and Agreeableness Factors of Personality on Academic Achievement of Secondary School Students.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of neuroticism, extraversion, and agreeableness on academic achievement of secondary school students and further to carry out gender wise comparative analysis of these traits. STUDY DESIGN: A Survey research design. th st PLACE AND DURATION: At secondary level in Hazara Division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from 25 October, 2013 to 1 March, 2014. METHODOLOGY: The study included 1438 of Grade 10 students. The data was collected through the use of the three subscales Neuroticism, Extraversion, and Agreeableness of Big Five Factors personality inventory. RESULTS: The mean score of Extraversion (3.19±0.58), Neuroticism (3.072±0.64), and Agreeableness (3.88±0.71) indicate the high flow. Neuroticism (β= -10.76, 0.023), Extraversion (β= -17.14, 0.000), and Agreeableness (β= -10.75, 0.01) were significant negative predictors of academic achievement. Further, Male students had significantly higher Extraversion (3.78, 0.000) and Agreeableness (3.138, 0.002) factors of personality as compared to female students. CONCLUSION: Neuroticism, extraversion and agreeableness traits contribute towards declining trends in academic achievement and male students were found to be more social and helping as compared to female students.
