Isra Med J Jan ;9(3):153-6.

OBJECTIVES: To assess hematological parameters in pancytopenia patients of Quetta Balochistan. STUDY DESIGN: A cross sectional study PLACE AND DURATION: Department of Medicine Unit- I, Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta. This study was conducted from st th November 1 , 2014 till February 30 , 2015 in the department of medicine, unit-I bolan medical complex Quetta. METHODOLOGY: Patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected followed by their detailed history and physical examination. Blood samples collected were sent for appropriate investigations. The parameters looked in the sent investigation were hemoglobin, white blood cell count, platelet count, reticulocyte count and mean cell volume. The complete blood count was done through abbott cell-dyn 1700 analyzer and data was analyzed on SPSS version 17. RESULT: Total 100 patient's samples were taken in which majority (50%) patient's hemoglobin ranging from 5.1-7 g/deciliter while 44% patients had leukocytic count values 3100-cells/cumm. The study result revealed that 40% patients had platelet counts values from 51,000-75,000 cells/cumm while 58% of the patients had reticulocyte count values in the range of 0.1-2%. The mean cell volume percentage (46%) of the patients had ranging from 86 to 90 fl. CONCLUSION: Hematological study is comparatively a good procedure and readily permits blood cell counts assessment, as the cell counts decide the severity of pancytopenia. A comprehensive clinical history and hematological investigations give very useful information in the entire workup of patients with pancytopenia for understanding the disease processes, planning extra investigations, management, and ascertain the cause.
