Abortion due to Herpes Zoster: A case report and review of literature.

A female of 30 years of age, primigravida, presented with gestational amenorrhea of 12 weeks, lower abdominal pains and P/V bleeding for 3 days on 03.07.2000. She got admitted in a private hospital where she was diagnosed as a case of `MISSED ABORTION` on ultrasonography. Her management plan was dilatation and curettage. There was no history of trauma or preceding illness. Her routine investigations and special investigations did not reveal any metabolic cause of abortion. Both partners had blood group B+ve. On first postoperative day she developed grouped vesiclobullous lesions on erythematous base in interrupted band-like distribution on the left lumbo sacral region extending to antero lateral aspect of thigh with mild fever, malaise, fatigue and left sided lymphadenopathy. She was referred to skin center and was diagnosed clinically to be a case of herpes zoster. On tzanck smear, viral giant cells were seen.
