Stent fracture a rare complication of percutaneous coronary intervention.
J Cardiovascular Dis Jan ;8(3):96-9.

A stent fracture is a rare complication arising from percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Bare metal stent fracture as a cause of acute coronary thrombosis and consequently of acute coronary syndrome is a rare clinical event. Stent fractures have been reported in almost all vascular sites including coronary arteries. Frequency of fracture depends upon stent type, anatomic location, vessel geometry , the number and length of stents, and the presence of overlap. Herein, we report a case of 50 year old male who received a Euca STS Flex bare metal stent for a tight focal proximal stenosis of right coronary artery (RCA). Check injection showed mild stent fracture with spur. So another Euca STS Flex stent was implanted covering the previous stent. Final check injection revealed no residual stenosis at stented site and TIMI III flow into distal RCA.
