Awareness of Physiotherapy in Gynecologist.
Baqai J Health Sci Jan ;12(2):35-8.

Obstetric and gynae care provides for physical, physiological and environmental factors that affect women throughout their life, from adolescence to menopause. It outlines physiotherapy management of obstetrics and urinary incontinence in women, and recommends referral to a physiotherapist. Knowledge of abnormal posture is a contributing factor which needs physiotherapy management. In this study 120 gynecologists, of mean age 24.65, were examined, which was based on a questionnaire consisting 20 questions. Both open and closed questions were used. The questionnaire was not longer than 5 minutes, to avoid fatigue and dealing with a specific order. The awareness of physiotherapy was checked in gynecologists, especially to know if they were patient oriented. The major factors identified were unawareness of physiotherapy in gynecologists and average response from the patients when referred to physiotherapy due to socio economic factors. Lack of professionalism, fewer available physiotherapy units, and lack of time was the major indicator for the unawareness of treatment. Only11% of the gynecologist referred their patients to physiotherapist for pain management. It was concluded that unawareness of gynae rehabilitation is the key factor due to which they don’t refer the patients for rehabilitation.
