Pipelle: An acceptable out patient technique for Endometrial Biopsy.
J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;9(1):14-6.

A prospective, randomized study was carried out in the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi during 1996 to evaluate the efficacy of pipelle as a tool for endometrial biopsy. The procedure was carried out in 50 patients, complaining of post menopausal bleeding and menstrual irregularities. The study revealed that endometrial biopsy can be obtained successfully by pipelle curette. The amount of the curettings obtained was satisfactory and sufficient (77%), with minimal discomfort to the patients (88%). The results of endometrial biopsies were compatible with histopathological findings of hysterectomy specimen in 39(93%) cases. It is concluded that a substantial number of traditional diagnostic curettage can be substituted by pipelle curettage, which is an inexpensive outpatient procedure.
