Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCMP) is a common cause CCF in the last trimester of pregnancy or within six months after parturition. Signs and symptoms of CCF are commonly mistaken for the normal manifestations of pregnancy. It is managed by bed rest, diuretics, vasodilators, digoxin and more important by avoidance of subsequent pregnancies. Cardiac function recovers in 50% cases within six months of delivery. The other fifty percent show variable clinical deterioration with thirty-five percent mortality in 5 years. Subsequent pregnancy with impaired cardiac function is associated with recurrence of PPCMP in 50% of patients with 50 to 100% mortality.
