Accuracy of Fournier’s Gangrene Severity Index in Predicting Mortality in Fournier’s Gangrene.
J Fatima Jinnah Med Coll Lahore Jan ;7(2):89-91.

Objective: To determine the accuracy of Fournier’s gangrene severity index in predicting mortality of patients of Fournier’s Gangrene. Patient and Methods: This is a cross sectional study and conducted from September 2011 to May 2012 at Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore in the Department of Urology. A total of 30 patients were included in this study to find out the accuracy of Fournier’s gangrene severity index in predicting mortality in Fournier’s gangrene. Results: The patients age range from 30-70 (59.10±8.69 years). The males were 93.3% while 6.7% were female. The inpatient mortality was 33%. Using Fournier’s gangrene severity index score threshold of 9, accuracy was found to be 80%. We found gangrene severity index scoring system accurate in predicting mortality of Fournier’s Gangrene. Conclusion: The Founier’s gangrene severity index remains an objective and simple method to quantify the extent of metabolic aberration at presentation in patients with Fournier’s gangrene. A Founier’s gangrene severity index threshold value of 9 is sensitive and specific for mortality in this patient population but more comprehensive studies should be done with more no of patients.
