Miliaria: (Prickly Heat) - An Update.
J Pak Assoc Derma Jan ;12(4):197-201.

In certain areas of Pakistan the climate is very hot and humid and Bahawalpur is one of them. Among the dermatoses related with such environment, Miliaria is the commonest. This review is planned to highlight different aspects of this common disorder of summer season. Mil iaria is a disorder of the eccrine sweat glands that often occurs in conditions of elevated heat and humidity. It is thought to result from blockage of the sweat ducts, resulting in leakage of eccrine sweat into the epidermis or dermis. The 3 types of miliaria are classified according to the level at which obstruction of the sweat duct occurs. In miliaria crystallina, ductal obstruction is most superficial, occurring in the stratum corneum and clinically producing tiny, fragile, clear vesicles. In miliaria rubra, obstruction occurs deeper within the epidermis, resulting in extremely pruritic erythematous papules. In miliaria profunda, ductal obstruction is at the dermalepidermal junction, leaking sweat into the papillary dermis and producing subtle asymptomatic flesh-colored papules. When pustules develop in lesions of miliaria rubra, the term miliaria pustulosa is used. This is a review article.
