Pak J Orthodont Ped and Comm Dentistry Jan ;1(2):93-5.

Macrodontia is a rare dental anomaly which may be categorized as true generalized, relative generalized, or isolated (single tooth). Isolated macrodontia or macrodontia of a single tooth is relatively uncommon and the majority of cases have been reported in the mandibular second premolars. The purpose of this article is to present a rare case of macrodontia of a single tooth in a 9-year-old Saudi boy whose medical, dental, and family histories were noncontributory. Clinical and radiographic examinations are described. The size of the crown of the maxillary left permanent central incisor was almost two times that of the adjacent lateral incisor. Radiographic examination of the maxillary left permanent central incisor revealed incompletely formed and malformed root. The patient was referred for consultation by an orthodontist who confirmed and recommended extraction of the maxillary left permanent central incisor. Treatment consisted of extraction of the tooth and fabrication of a removable partial denture.
