Arch dimensions in class I, II and III malocclusion: A pilot study.
Pak J Orthodont Ped and Comm Dentistry Jan ;1(1):21-6.

97 pairs of pretreatment orthodontic study casts were selected from clinical records of patients seeking orthodontic treatment at Al Baha dental center. The sample was divided into three groups according to Angle`s classification, where 32 pairs Class I, 30 pairs Class II and 35 pairs Class III. The intercanine distance and intermolar distance were measured for the maxilla and the mandible, while the arch length was measured only for the maxilla. Comparisons between these measurements and the different malocclusion groups were computed. Descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and t test were used for the statistical analysis of the data. The results showed no statistically significant difference between the different malocclusion Classes; except for the upper intermolar distance in Class I, which was greater than that in Class II. Further, no statistically significant difference was noted between the two sexes except for the upper intercanine (CC 1) and intermolar (MM 1) distances in Class 1. Furthermore, significant difference was noted between both sexes when all Classes were combined for MM1 (P<0.01), CC 1 and MM2 (P<0.05). Comparisons with other studies are discussed.
