Glucose tolerance status in healthy relatives of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;14(1):51-4.

Forty-five healthy first-degree relatives (FDRs) of documented type 2 DM patients were studied to evaluate the glucose tolerance status alongwith 30 controls of matched age group between 25-45 years. Two-step oral glucose tolerance test was done. The mean fasting and 2-hour post load plasma glucose were significantly high in FDRs as compared to respective controls. Eight FDRs (17.78%) were glucose intolerant. Three FDRs (6.66%) had higher fasting glucose levels and 3 FDRs (6.66%) had higher post load glucose levels only, whereas the 2 FDRs (4.44%) had both fasting and 2-hour postload higher glucose levels. Key Words: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, First Degree Relatives (FDRs), and Oral Glucose Tolerance Test.
