Comparison of Wayne`s clinical index and Thyroid Hormones in Graves Disease: Effect of medication.
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;13(4):139-41.

In this comparative study, 48 patients with Graves’ disease and 20 age & sex matched controls were included. The patients were randomly selected from Thyroid Clinic, Mayo hospital, Lahore. Wayne’s clinical indices and serum thyroxine (T4) & tri-iodo thyronine (T3) concentration of all the patients were determined. Random blood glucose & total protein were estimated using the commercially available kits in all the subjects. The serum protein concentrations (mean?± SD) of GD patients and control subjects were found to be comparable (p>0.05). The serum glucose values (mean± SD) of GD patients were raised statistically significantly (p<0.05) as compared to the normal controls. Hyperglycemia occurring in Graves disease can unmask the underlying tendency in a patient to develop type-2 (non-dependent) diabetes mellitus.
