Hyperlipidemia in Diabetics.
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;13(4):159-60.

Diabetes mellitus is associated with a greater risk of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Serum lipids are frequently abnormal and are likely to contribute to the risk of coronary artery disease. This study was designed to determine the risk of hyperlipidemia in diabetics. 200 diabetic patients were included, and relevant data including age, sex, body mass index, type, duration & treatment of diabetes was obtained. Fasting and 02 hours postprandial plasma glucose and fasting serum lipid levels were measured. The mean age was 54+16 years, 55% were male. Poor glycemic control was found in 69%, hyperlipidemia in 18% and IHD was found in 21.5%. A significant association was found between hyperlipidemia and IHD, and poor glycemic control and impaired renal function.
