Frequency of Depression amongst Acne patients..

Objective: of our study was to assess the magnitude of depression in patients presented with Acne in the Department of Dermatology Bahawal Victoria Hospital. Bahawalpur. Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted from July 2016 to January 2017. None probably consecutive sampling technique was used. Study was started after ethical approval from the departmental ethical committee. Data was analyzed through statistical software SPSS version 23, mean ± SD was calculated for quantitative data like age and frequency (percentage) was calculated for qualitative data like depression (present/absent) and education status. P value <= 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: A total number of 375 patients were included in this study, both genders. The main outcome variable of this study was the frequency of depression. It was observed that, out of 375 patients, majority of the patients i.e. 59.5% (223 were severely depressed, 24% (n=90) had moderate depression and only 16.5% (n=62) had mild depression. Conclusion: We concluded that acne is strongly associated with depression, in our society female gender is more depressed due to their skin problem. Moreover educated female were highly conscious and more depressed due to acne. Keywords: Acne, Depression, AKUADS, Skin.
