Sensitivity patterns of Staphylococcus Aureus isolates from Services Hospital Lahore.
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;13(4):170-3.

Objective: The present study was planned to determine the pattern of drug resistance among Staphylococcus aureus isolates from Services hospital Lahore particularly with reference to methicillin and Vancomycin. Design: It is a descriptive study. Place and duration: The study was conducted ay PGMI ,Lahore over a period of 4 month. Subject/Methods: This study includes 50 strains of Staphylocci isolates from different clinical specimens of patients admitted in Services Hospital, Lahore. The isolates were confirmed by standard biochemical tests. These isolates were subjective to sensitivity testing by Kirby- Bauer disk diffusion susceptibility testing method and zone of inhibition were measured as recommended by NCCL. Results: Among 33 Staphylococcus aureus isolates, 84.45% were resistant to penicillin, 27% to Cefuroxime, 63.64% to Oxacillin, 63.45% to Rocephin, ,60.61 % to Doxycycline, 67.70%to Erythrocin, 36.36% to Gintamicin , 15.15% to Ciprofloxacin, 100% to septran, 9.09% to Fusidin and 0% to Vancomycin. Conclusion: The MRSA has generally higher level of resistance to commonly used anti staphylococcus antibiotics. Along with this, in Pakistan emergence of Staphylococcus aureus resistance to vancomycin should not go unchecked.
