Ophthalmol Update Jan ;15(4):411-6.

Objective: To examine the quality of care given to older people with low vision associated with diabetes. Material and Methods: Search was started from the latest available papers, we searched Pub Med, Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Allied and Complimentary Medicine Database (AMED) and International Pharmaceutical Abstract databases (IPA), International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Diabetes UK and American Diabetes Association (ADA), only the relevant papers on low vision and diabetes were reviewed. Results: The results found that many older people had the perception that low vision was a normal ageing process and could not be rectified. The study also found unavailability of training, absence of knowledge and awareness on low vision associated with diabetes. Conclusion: In order to identify preventable or treatable low vision associated with diabetes, everyone concerned should be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of preventable low vision.
