A new focus of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Pakistan.
J Pak Assoc Derma Jan ;13(1):3-6.

Cutaneous Leishmaniasis is common in many areas of Pakistan and these have been declared endemic. Over the past few years, the disease appears to be spreading all over the country and the present episode of the disease amongst the army troops is indicative of this fact. A total of 60 patients were seen. Incubation period was between 5-7 months. The lesions were 1-2 cm in diameter and were multiple in three-quarters of cases. Ulceration occurred after 6-10 weeks. Lymphatic spread was not seen. Clinical profile was similar to those seen in Baluchistan and histopathology revealed a mixed inflammatory infiltrate in maximum number of cases. This episode in previously non-endemic area indicates a new endemic focus in the country and it is important for health units to be aware of this.
