Comparison of Maternal Morbidity and Mortality between Emergency and Elective Lower Segment Cesarean Section.

The study was designed to compare the maternal morbidity and mortality in emergency and elective Caesarean sections. Student t test was applied and p value calculated to assess the degree of significance. P value < 0.05 was considered as significant. Commonly encountered complications were Hemorrhage, anesthesia problems, injury to bladder, chest and wound infections. There were 3 maternal deaths all in emergency cases. Almost all complications were significantly higher in women who underwent emergency C.S. We concluded that women requiring emergency procedure are at high risk and measures should be to taken to make this procedure as safe as possible.
