Altered consciousness, hemiplegia, headache, urinary incontinence, vomiting, aphasia or dysphasia, amnesia, facial weakness, cranial nerve abnormalities, sensory loss and hemiparesis were common clinical features. 78% patients had cerebral infarction 17% intra-cerebral hemorrhage and 5% sub-arachnoid hemorrhage. Hypertension (58.5%), Cardiac diseases (46.5%), diabetes (42.5%), smoking (33%), hyperlipidemia (30%) and previous stroke (11%) were the important risk factors found. Stroke, being a very important disease event in middle and old age, needs serious consideration. In western world the incidence of stroke is on decline in last three decades.
