Coagulation profile in women taking hormonal contraceptives.
Ann King Edward Med Uni Jan ;9(2):118-21.

The present study was designed to estimate the coagulation parameters like fibrinogen degradation products (FDPs), fibrinogen levels, thrombin time (TT), Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). In this study, coagulation parameters were compared in combined oral contraceptives (COCs) and injectable group. 40 subjects of COCs and 40 of injectabale group with 20 normal females without hormonal contraceptives were included in the present study with a contraceptive duration from 3-18 months. Blood samples were collected for special coagulation parameters. FDPs levels were significantly elevated in subjects using COCs and injectable contraceptives as compared to normal control. PT and APTT were shortened in COCs while these tests are not significantly altered by injectable groups. Fibrinogen levels were increased significantly in COCs but significantly reduced in injectable groups.
