Background: Rickets is a non communicable disease that occurs due to nutritional deficiency by limited sunlight exposure. Its prevention can decrease the incidence of recurrent chest infection. Aim : To compare outdoor playing games with adequate sunlight exposure versus indoor playing games with limited sunlight exposure in reduction of Nutritional rickets in under 5 years old children. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted in the Division of Paediatric Infectious Diseases,Department of Paediatrics, Jinnah Hospital, Lahore. The demographic profile of children recorded after fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria. Logistic Regression technique applied for analysis in both the groups. P value <0.05 will be taken as significant.Results: The study found a reduction in the incidence of nutritional rickets in outdoor playing children. Nutritional rickets in outdoor playing children were (24 %)in boys and 28 % in girls , while indoor playing children having nutritional rickets were 72% in boys and 76 % in girls. Conclusion : Outdoor playing games were protective against nutritional rickets. The study thus reinforces the benefits of outdoor playing games .
